Idyllwild Vacation Rentals (not to be confused with my business, Idyllwild Vacation Cabins) has been in business for more than 30 years, and for years, has been located just down the street at 54280 North Circle Drive, Idyllwild, CA. Like us, they offered property management services to property owners who have wanted to rent their homes out as a vacation rental.
I'm a big believer in WHAT GOES AROUND - COMES AROUND. You might ask why I mentioned this, but it has everything to do with how I run my business. I'll never forget when the current owner of Idyllwild Vacation Rentals came into my office and asked if I could answer a few questions about the business what was for sale down the street. I quickly discovered that this woman was talking about a local competitor's business was up for sale down and this woman was interested. I paused momentarily and thought, why should I help a future competitor? Well, that lasted only for a few seconds, and I thought, here is another woman wishing to own her own business, and I remember me being in that exact same spot years earlier. Why shouldn't I help? Well, as it turned out, she bought that business and we've been respectful competitors for years. Recently, I became aware that the office was closed - more often than in the past. I thought something isn't right. I soon found out that there was an important health crisis in the family and that demanded her priority - and that she couldn't do both and was considering some hard choices. When I called her to see if there was anything I could do to help. I even offered to help care for her properties for a few month till things settle down. She simply said that she would give me the properties that I thought made sense. This was the part where I feel that my helping her out early on is being paid forward and her way of thanking me for my kindness many years earlier. I have come away from experience with a number of new properties that I'm sure that my customers will love - and all of this was due to kindness. The next time you find yourself in this kind of position, just remember that there are still a lot of people out there that are very kind and still very genuine. Don't give up on humanity just yet. Since then, there has been a major effort to get both roads open.
